5 Minutes a Day Keeps the Stress Away

What would happen if you took just 5 minutes a day to have an all-out silly dance party alone in your room?

You don’t have to learn a cool TikTok dance or be formally trained. Just turn on some music and play. Let the world slip away for a brief moment and get lost in the beat.

Dance truly has the power to help us reduce stress, silence loneliness, embrace joy, and overall enhance our well-being. So why do we save it for weddings and wild nights out?!

What would be possible if we started dancing more?

Our Motivated Movers Community decided to embark on a 15-Day Silly Dance Party Challenge as a mini-movement experiment. Each day we gathered as a community (or made the commitment on our own time) and just danced.

Guided by a single invitation each day, we explored various ways of moving and grooving to add a little structure to the open-ended exploration. We also did a 3-word check-in on how we were feeling before beginning. Then we took a moment to reflect on how we felt afterward, holding space for curiosity to notice the subtle or magnetic shifts that occurred.

We learned many lessons during our time, including:

  • Taking care of ourselves does not mean we always have to show up in big and grandiose ways. Just 5 minutes of movement a day is an achievable commitment and powerful practice for our self-care.
  • Physical limitations can be a gateway for finding new ways of moving that feel good on our bodies and are still joyful! Dance with your heads, your arms, through pregnancy, through discomfort, or in any way that is possible for your body in the moment.
  • A small dose of dancing can take us from feeling disconnected, lethargic, underproductive, and overwhelmed, to feeling invigorated, present, calm, and grateful.

Each journey is different, but the possibilities are profound.

This is your invitation to embark on the challenge yourself. You don’t need anyone and there is no right way to begin. Just dance.
